Do you want to replace the roof on your Carrollton home, but not sure which roofing company you can trust? Many roofing companies offer great deals, but are they too good to be true? There are a few ways to determine if the company you are dealing with is trustworthy.
Learn the Signs of a Roofing Scam
Timing. One of the obvious ways you can tell that the roofing company you are considering may not be the most trustworthy is observing when they show up. If the roofing company is going door-to-door in your neighborhood shortly after a storm, they could be targeting (and scaring!) homeowners by overstating damage and inflating repair bills.
Acting Vague. If a potential roofing contractor visits your home gives you a quick run through of your damage and avoids your questions while simultaneously asking you to sign on the dotted line, you could be dealing with someone that is not trustworthy or operating a legitimate roofing company.
No Online Presence. Before signing any contracts, do your research. Search online to find the company website, ratings or customer reviews. If you cannot find anything online, the company may not be legitimate. You may also be able to search your city’s list of contractors permitted to work in your city.
Billing for Estimates. Many professional roofing companies provide free estimates to possible customers, while fly-by-night companies charge for them. Some untrustworthy companies may also ask for a down payment even before they give you an estimate! Also, beware of a bait and switch in which they may give you a very low estimate, but hand you a bill for more money after completing repairs.
